Core Beliefs

GOD IS…the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He exists eternally in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. There is one God in three persons.  We learn about God through His creation, His word, and His Son.  God loves us more than we can imagine.

(Genesis 1:1, Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3:22; Psalm 90:2; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

JESUS CHRIST IS…the one and only son of God.   Jesus is God with skin on.  Jesus reveals to us who God is.  His purpose for coming to earth was to show God’s love by dying on a cross, thus taking the sins of all humankind upon Himself, and paying the penalty that our sins deserve.  He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate his power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven and will return to earth again to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

(Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; John 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13)

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS…equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make us aware of our need for Jesus Christ. He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation and provides Christians with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. We seek to live under his control daily.

(2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, John 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13-14; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18)

THE BIBLE IS…God’s Word to all people, written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.  The Bible tells us who God is, why God loves us, and what God’s plans are for us.

(2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, Psalm 119:160, Psalm 12:6; Proverbs 30:5)

PEOPLE ARE…made in the image of God and the pinnacle of His creation. Although people have tremendous potential for good, they are damaged and broken by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. Sin separates people from God.

(Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2)

SALVATION IS…a free gift from God provided by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.  We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.  Salvation is not something that can be purchased or earned and is available to everyone who accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  That faith is expressed through repentance of sin and baptism by immersion.

(Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; John 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1)

THE CHURCH IS…the body of Christ on Earth, and the community of believers throughout the world.  The local church is the hands and feet of Jesus in the world today.  When anyone surrenders by faith to Jesus, that person is added to His Church. In addition, when anyone is added to Christ’s Church, he or she becomes a part of the priesthood of all believers. This implies that every Jesus-follower is now a serving minister in and through the church. The Church’s supreme mission is to help people find and follow Jesus, and its cultural mandate is to care for the world God has created.

 (1 Corinthians 12:27; Matthew 28:19-20; John 10:10; Ephesians 4:11-14; Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 2:9-10)
